The Moordown Halifax Memorial was unveiled and dedicated on 10th July 2011, in memory of the 2 civilians and 7 aircrew who lost their lives when an RAF Handley Page Halifax heavy bomber, serial number JP137, crashed into the suburb of Moordown, Bournemouth, in the very early hours of 21st March 1944, during World War 2.
Research carried out in preparation for the Memorial revealed a wealth of history, discovered locally, from official documentation of that time, and from the families of all those involved.
As much as possible of the detail uncovered by that research will be presented here, as time permits.
